Navajo Chief’s Blanket Variant
circa 1875-188
Graphically powerful, this chief’s variant floats a sarape-like design over a more familiar barred Second Phase layout. Woven entirely with handspun yarns, the dominant red field marks the early appearance of Navajo dyed red utilizing aniline dye. Other colors include indigo, vegetal yellow, and indigo over-dyed greens
